5. Drink enough water before the appointment if a urine sample or bladder ultrasound is required.

The consultation begins with a medical history review (anamnesis) and discussion of symptoms.
This is followed by a physical examination, which may include abdominal palpation, prostate examination, or ultrasound of the urinary tract.

If needed, the urologist may recommend further testing such as urine analysis, uroflowmetry, cystoscopy, or imaging studies.
