Biography
My name is Vladimir Sotirov. I graduated in Medicine from the Medical University of Sofia in 1995. I began working at the State Psychiatric Hospital “St. Ivan Rilski” – Novi Iskar (Kurilo) in early 1996. I obtained my specialty in Psychiatry in 2001. I also hold a Master’s degree in Healthcare Management from New Bulgarian University. I am the father of two daughters and the owner of three dogs.
In 2001, together with fellow psychiatrists, we established the Group Practice for Specialized Outpatient Psychiatric Care “Adaptation”, which I have managed ever since. I have completed additional training in psychosocial rehabilitation, cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), and analytical psychology.
In my clinical practice, I place particular emphasis on the context in which symptoms of mental distress arise, as well as on the individual’s subjective experience of suffering. I prescribe medication when appropriate, with careful consideration and after discussing the expected benefits and potential risks with each patient. I view the goal of treatment not only as relieving distress, but also as improving overall functioning and quality of life.
I am mindful of the limitations of psychiatry as a specialty and seek to address them by working in close collaboration with professionals from related fields, including psychotherapists, social workers, and clinical psychologists.
My work is guided by core ethical principles – strict confidentiality and respect for each patient’s individual preferences when planning treatment. I believe that an open, collaborative approach, grounded in trust and transparency, is inherently therapeutic, and that meaningful relief in emotional well-being can often be achieved even after the first consultation.
