Biography

Dr. Ognyan Gatsev, MD, PhD graduated in Medicine from the Medical University of Pleven in 2014. From 2014 to 2020, he specialized in Urology at the Department of Urology and Nephrology at the Military Medical Academy, Sofia, under the mentorship of Prof. Dr. Iliya Saltîrov, DSc. In 2020, he obtained his specialty in Urology and began working as an assistant at the same department.

In 2023, Dr. Gatsev defended his doctoral dissertation on “Mini Percutaneous Nephrolithotripsy (Mini-PNL) – Indications, Surgical Technique, Effectiveness, and Safety in the Treatment of Kidney Stones”, earning the academic degree of Doctor of Medicine.

His scientific interests include minimally invasive treatment of urolithiasis, endourological treatment of lower urinary tract disorders, uro-oncology, reconstructive urology, transplantology, and laparoscopic surgery.

Over the years, Dr. Gatsev has participated in numerous specialized international and national training courses to further his qualifications.

He is a member of the Bulgarian Medical Association, the European Association of Urology (EAU), and the International Alliance of Urolithiasis (EULIS/IAU).

Dr. Gatsev has authored over 50 publications in national and international scientific journals and more than 60 abstracts presented at Bulgarian and international urological congresses. He has also contributed to two medical textbooks.

He serves on the editorial board of the journal Endourology and Minimally Invasive Surgery.

Additionally, he is a certified console surgeon for the Da Vinci Xi robotic surgical system, trained in Barcelona, Spain.
